A duck with lips. Built for NYX.
NYX Professional Makeup launched Duck Plump, a plumping lip gloss. We gave the launch a mascot you can’t walk past: a giant lavender duck with glossy red lips, standing right in the middle of a busy shopping street.

How we built it.
One idea carried the whole launch. The product is called Duck Plump, so the duck gets the plumpest lips in town, and a character people want a selfie with.
01The character
A friendly duck in NYX lavender with long lashes and oversized glossy red lips. Simple enough to read from across the street.

3D design
We shaped the duck in 3D first, then locked proportions, colours and the logo placement on the body before anything was made.

03Fabrication
The body in lavender fabric with the NYX Professional Makeup logo printed on, and the lips sewn as their own sculpted piece so they hold their pout.

Installed in a busy pedestrian area, with “For your lips only” barrier tape and Duck Plump display cubes around it, so every photo shows the product too.

CGI film
One duck on the street.
One in the feed.
The duck on the street makes people stop, walk over and take out their phones. Around it we made a CGI film of the giant duck being flown into the city by helicopter, cut for social, so the launch also reaches people who never walk past.
QR on the duck
Scan the duck.
Watch it fly.
Put a QR code on the inflatable and the street turns into a screen. People point their phone at it, and the CGI film of the duck flying in starts playing right where they stand.

Mixed reality · how it works
How a duck
learns to fly.
The film looks like someone filmed a helicopter carrying the duck down the street. It’s a real street with 3D on top, built in layers.
- 01
Real street footage
A handheld shot on a real street, filmed like any phone video.
- 02
3D duck and helicopter
Modelled in 3D and tracked to the camera, so they move with every shake of the shot.
- 03
Light and shadow
Lit to match the grey winter sky, so the duck sits in the scene instead of on top of it.
- 04
The final shot
Cut vertical for social, where people watch it like it really happened.
Standing in the street.
Installed in a busy pedestrian street with branded barrier tape and Duck Plump cubes around it, so every photo people take shows the product too.
